Quarter Eagle Gold Coin

The quarter eagle was a gold coin issued by the United States with a denomination of two hundred and fifty cents, or two dollars and fifty cents. It was given its name in the Coinage Act of 1792, as a derivation from the US ten-dollar eagle coin. Its purchasing power in 1800 would be equivalent to $71.12 in 2015 dollars.

Designed by Robert Scot, the quarter eagle denomination was struck at the main mint at Philadelphia, and branch mints in Charlotte (1838-1859 not inclusive), New Orleans (1838-1857 only), and Denver (1911-1925). The first issues weighed 67.5 grains, fineness .9167, until the weight was modified to 64.5 grains and the fineness changed to .8992 by the Act of June 28, 1834. The Act of January 18, 1837 established a fineness of .900. This means that 1837 and later quarter eagles contain 0.121 Troy Oz. of gold content.

As relatively fewer coins were struck prior to 1834, combined with their higher gold content (promoting melting for their bullion content), all of the early issues range from scarce to rare. The first issues were struck in 1796. Any proof date prior to 1856 is rare, and will command a premium in any condition. The quarter eagle denomination was officially discontinued in 1933 with the removal of the United States from the Gold Standard, although the last date of issue was 1929.

A friend of mine told me about this place to take all my old jewelry to… I wasn’t expecting a whole lot of money because the jewelry was really old but I walked out with 500 bucks and a huge grin on my face. The staff was so friendly and offered the best money for my items. I’d recommend everyone in the area of Chicago to bring any unwanted gold or coins to Oakton coins and collectibles!

I love going to Oakton Coins & Collectibles. Every time you go the guy always has something new and interesting. You can tell he really loves what he does cause if you have questions about anything he will answer them and help you if you have things to sell or want to invest. Highly recommend going to his shop for anything old and cool. Buying and selling gold or silver even collectable coins is his passion and no better place to go for this.

Very knowledgable, and easy to work with. I worked with the Owner and I really appreciated that he didn’t push me to sell anything I was uncomfortable selling. It felt like he was really honest and I would certainly work with him in the future.

I brought in some old jewelry that was just laying around gathering dust and was given a price that was more than fair. I went to one other pawn shop to see what they would offer and it was well below what Oakton offered me. Will be doing more business with them in the future!

I was in here a few days ago to look for some coins for my dad. It’s his birthday in a few weeks and he is a collector.

I was greeted when I walked in and asked if I was looking for anything in particular or if I was just browsing. I told the guy (can’t remember his name … I’m sorry!), about my dad. I ended up getting him a couple one ounce silver American eagle coins, which is he going to love.

This place also buys gold. So I’m going to be coming back soon with some old gold and silver jewelry that I don’t wear anymore. My friend had sold a few pieces to him a few months back and she said she got a really good price for what she had.

Over all I enjoyed my visit. The guy (owner I think?) was really nice and knowledgeable and I trust that he’ll be able to take care of me when I come back with my old jewelry.

Thank you again and I’ll see you soon!!

I stopped in to inquire what my options were for investing in gold and the best products for it. The clerk was beyond helpful and spent close to 40 minutes explaining all of the various products and weights available and the best options for long term vs short term investments.

Highly recommended these guys!

I drove from the south suburbs to skokie. I found Oakton off of yelp and read all the reviews and decided to stop by. I thought I’d give it a try since i really needed some cash. I was greeted by josos and showed him the gold coins that i had. I wasn’t certain as to what they were worth but I feel like I was given wayyyyyy more than what i was asking for. I highly recommend stopping by if you need cash and have gold or silver to sell. The drive was well worth it. Thanks again Josos!

I have sold gold and silver to them 2 times. They are very respectful, honest and more than fair. I have referred co-workers to Oakton Coins & Collectibles. Recently I went with one co-worker during our lunch break and they gave her an extra $20 to pay for our lunch as a thank you for my referral!

I took some old pocketwatches to Oakton Coins. Joses examined them and one turned out to be an expensive Railroad Pocketwatch. I decided to sell the other watches but not this one. Joses was very gracious about it. He told me that watch was very valuable and he understood why I would want to keep it in the family. I kinda expected attitude, especially from a coin dealer, but not with this place. Certainly different in this day and age.

This is place is great, the only place I’ll trust going with my coins in Chicago. My grandma has been coming here for years and they are always friendly to her and me. It’s in a fine Chicagoland neighborhood but they have to let you in by unlocking the door with a buzzer – it makes you feel safer.

I was there to meet family when we decided to sell my gold so I can buy a property but after some search all I could found was lairs who claim to be best gold buyers in chicago but just one call to oakton coins and I was convinced these guys are what I am looking for. If you do want a one stop shop, gold – coin buyer look no further. good experience.

Excellent experience! I recently inherited a large gold rope chain from my grandfather. Despite being a nice piece of jewelry, it was something that I know I would never wear. So with his blessing, he told me to sell it and get something that I could use. Taking his advice, I began seeking out gold purchasers in the Skokie, Evanston, Rogers Park area. While searching, Oakton Coins caught my eye. So a quick drive to Skokie landed me at their counter.

I was amazed to learn that he was willing to give me $145 more than everyone else. Needless to say, I took his offer and will definitely continue to do business with him in the future.

These folks are pros and will give you the best price for your old jewelry. Even the ‘We Buy Gold’ storefronts sell to them. I had a very challenging gold and silver jewelry inheritance and the guys at Oakton Coins really put the time and effort into getting me the best return on my value. I was impressed…. best prices in the Chicago area.

If you need to sell gold in Chicago this is the best place to go! They helped me get rid of some old and outdated jewelry that I had been carrying around for too long!! It was nice to feel like I was getting some of my money back even after all of this time. I got a check but I think they pay in cash too. Nice little coin shop.

TIFFANY & CO – Silver Jewelry – Buy & Sell

Tiffany jewelry was the jewelry created and supervised by Louis Comfort Tiffany at Tiffany & Co., during the Art Nouveau movement.

Louis Comfort Tiffany waited until after his father’s death (Charles Lewis Tiffany) in 1902 before beginning to create jewelry. On March 22, 1902 Tiffany received approval to become a member of Tiffany & Co.’s Board of Directors, afterwards becoming vice-president and art director. This gave Tiffany the ability to make executive choices; without being under the shadow of his father any longer Tiffany was able to focus his creative energies on his jewelry.

Tiffany began to experiment with jewelry designs in 1902 at Tiffany Furnaces, with the intent of showing his pieces as part of Tiffany & Co.’s display at the St. Louis Exposition. It was the perfect venue for him to show his range of talent in a variety of media. All the jewelry Tiffany made during this time was stamped with “Louis C. Tiffany,” along with “Artist.”[1](p75) Unfortunately there are no surviving day books nor ledgers to help provide information on how Tiffany went about his jewelry prior to 1907, however his exhibit at the St. Louis Exposition provides some knowledge of his ventures.

American Eagle Silver Proof

The American Silver Eagle is the official silver bullion coin of the United States.

It was first released by the United States Mint on November 24, 1986. It is struck only in the one-troy ounce size, which has a nominal face value of one dollar and is guaranteed to contain one troy ounce of 99.9% pure silver. It is authorized by Title II of Public Law 99-61 (Liberty Coin Act, approved July 9, 1985) and codified as 31 U.S.C. § 5112(e)-(h). Its content, weight, and purity are certified by the United States Mint. In addition to the bullion version, the United States Mint has produced a proof version and an uncirculated version for coin collectors. The Silver Eagle has been produced at three mints: the Philadelphia Mint, the San Francisco Mint, and the West Point Mint. The American Silver Eagle bullion coin may be used to fund Individual Retirement Account investments.

The design on the coin’s obverse was taken from the “Walking Liberty” design by Adolph A. Weinman, which originally had been used on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar coin of the United States from 1916 to 1947. As this iconic design had been a public favorite—and one of the most beloved designs of any United States coinage of modern times, silver or otherwise—it was revived for the Silver Eagle decades later. The obverse is inscribed with the year of minting or issuance, the word LIBERTY, and the phrase IN GOD WE TRUST.

The reverse was designed by John Mercanti and portrays a heraldic eagle behind a shield; the eagle grasps an olive branch in its right talon and arrows in its left talon, echoing the Great Seal of the United States; above the eagle are thirteen five-pointed stars representing the Thirteen Colonies.[2] The reverse is inscribed with the phrases UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 1 OZ. FINE SILVER~ONE DOLLAR, and E PLURIBUS UNUM (on the banner that the eagle holds in its beak), as well as the mintmark if applicable.

Liberty $20 Gold Coin (1850-1907)

Liberty $20 Gold Coin (1850-1907)

xLiberty-20-coin-cat-e1446638000969.jpg.pagespeed.ic.ISEKGJv_90.jpg

Produced for more than 50 years, the $20 Liberty gold coin is one that had an extremely high face value for its day. At the time, the coin’s face value more closely coincided with the spot price of gold, but now the inherent value of these coins in gold is far greater than ever before. If you combine this with the fact that these are not the easiest coins to acquire than you have yourself a great collector’s item. Nowadays, collectors from all over the world do everything they can to get their hands on these coins. Of course, getting their hands on them is not enough, as most collectors set forth that only the most well-preserved pieces will be able to be added to their collections.

The somewhat large coin is interesting because it was one of the first of its kind, and a coin that had a face value higher than most others ever produced by the US Mint. For this reason, it is a bit more special than your average gold coin from the same era.

What You Will Pay for a $20 Liberty Gold Coin

The price you are going to be asked to pay for a $20 Liberty is always going to be quite high. This is so because the coin, regardless of its condition, has gold content that makes it incredibly valuable. Add this to the fact that the coins themselves are quite scarce, and it is easy to see why you will rarely find these coins selling for less than $1,000 even in poor condition. In fact, even the poorest of the poor will sell for prices that approach $2,000.

The reason these coins are so expensive is due to a combination of the fact that these are particularly interesting coins due to their face value, their gold content, and the fact that so very few of them are still on the market today. Before you ever make a purchase, it is important that you do some comparison shopping because the price you pay for a coin from one dealer may differ greatly from the price being asked by another.

The Most Sought After $20 Liberty Gold Coins

When it comes down to it, just about every year and every type of $20 Liberty is sought after by collectors. As stated, these coins are particularly interesting because it is unusual for most to see a coin that has a face value higher than $1. If you account for how much $20 was able to buy you back in the 1800s, it is clear to see just how useful and powerful these coins were in their day.

Apart form that, you will find that the versions and types that do not have many remaining on the market will be the ones that sell for exorbitantly high prices. The 1891CC, for example, will sell for no less than $5,000 even in the poorest condition.

Future Value of $20 Liberty Gold Coins

The future value of a coin is something that is not so easy to determine. These coins have been on the market for so long that there are only ever going to be fewer, which naturally tells us that the price, per coin, is going to increase. While it may be nearly impossible to give an exact future valuation to a specific coin, it is safe to say that it will only ever be worth more as time moves forward.

Oregon Teens Make 50,000 Selling Fake Gold Bars On Craigslist

Two 17-year-old boys were arrested in Bend, Oregon, for selling fake gold bars to customers on Craigslist, according to police.

The teen boys bought knockoffs of Perth Mint and Royal Canadian Mint gold bars online and then re-sold them as real ones.

The pair managed to earn a total of $50,000 in eight months.

“The juveniles were sophisticated and used multiple ways to conceal their identity and scheme,” local media quoted Bend police Lt. Clint Burleigh as saying.

The two are being charged with aggravated theft by deception and conspiracy, and felony computer crime, police stated. And only one of the suspects is being charged with money laundering.

Authorities said they were able to identify only four victims so far and asked others who bought Royal Canadian Mint or Perth Mint gold bars online from an unknown person in Oregon between last July and March 21 to contact Bend police at 541-693-6911.

Officers also issued a warning, cautioning citizens to only buy precious metals and gems from “reputable dealers in the area.”
